Boiler Project - Phase One, Boiler Building
As it looks today - July 14, 2008
The picture above is a progress photo of our new boiler building. We are very close to being ready to start the boiler equipment installation (Phase Two - scheduled to start Monday the 21st of July) and also the piping and radiator installation (Phase Three - to start once the boiler equipment is installed).
We have needed to install a boiler system to provide hot water and heat in our building since moving in back in 2005. This year our faithful supporters jumped in and started contributing to the need for funding of the boiler system. The system is quite extensive and costly as it includes heating radiators in each room of the five story building, a separate boiler house to house the boiler it’s self and the boiler equipment as well.
It was obvious that even though our Home of Hope friends were doing what they could we needed some additional help to complete the funding. Out of the graciousness of their heart the Dorthea Ross Foundation in the USA and the Herrod Foundation in Switzerland jumped in and provided the funding needed to complete the boiler project. We can now look forward to having hot water and heat this winter… of course the hot water will be available year round.
After completing the details, permits and utility accesses needed for the boiler system, the Phase One (Boiler Building) started in earnest. Again in the picture above you can see that we were required to build the boiler room to match the existing buildings and also to fit in with the landscape so as not to create an eye sore. We were able to match the exterior tile both walls and roof and also to tuck the building in a remote outside corner of our main building so that it is almost no visible from the street.
The following series of pictures show the construction progress of the boiler building as well as some insight as to how construction is done in China.
The first day after utility work is completed - hand digging the footings
More hand digging and setting the foundation forms
Foundation/wall brick delivered and masonry work begins
The walls are going up - Also a view from a distance
Top bearing beam concrete being poured - Roofing tile samples arrive
Framing the hip roof (also done with steel and concrete)
Poured concrete roof from two angles - also shows the exhaust ports
Installing the roof tile and the Electrical Control Panels
Boiler building close to complete - view from the other end of the main building
View from the street showing how little of the boiler building is exposed
We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our daily activities in installing the boiler system.
Phase Two should start next week (weather permitting) and we will add the Phase Two page as things develop.
Again, a big Thank You to everyone who made this possible with special Thanks to the Ross and Herrod Foundations.
